Department
of Maxillofacial Surgery
was established in 1997. Since
its inception it has come a long
way. Six postgraduates are admitted
each year for the MDS course which
runs for 3 years as per Rajiv
Gandhi University for Health Sciences
regimen. In 9 years nearly 50
graduates have passed out.
The department maintains highest
standard in academics. It has
excellent supporting staff and
ministerial staff. It caters to
large population of around 6 lakhs
proper Davangere and about one
and half lakh floating. Referrals
are from far & wide. The department
has carved niche for itself in
about 9 years.
The regular work goes on everyday.
Department has independent O.T.
with 8 beds. Routinely surgeries
are scheduled on daily basis.
The type of surgeries performed
are trauma, correction of jaw
deformity, TMJ problems, tumours,
cleft lip & palate & minor
surgeries. Full time anaesthetist
is present for 24 hours daily.
Inspite of the number of post
graduate students present at any
given time every effort is made
to give them individual attention
and training. Department believes
in the age old motto of service
before self and leaving it better
than found.
Department is equipped with state
of art equipments like remote
controlled O.T. table. Angeulux
lighting system, striker system,
Valley lab cautery unit etc. state
of art cardiac monitors &
other monitors as per specification
with mechanical ventilators &
most of paraphranelia.
Department is equipped with department
library where most of books with
recent edition are available for
benefit of students.
Seminars and journal club are
conducted on regular basis where
laptop and LCD projectors are
used in presentations.
Department is presently headed
by Dr.B.Praveen Reddy,
young enthusiastic creative person
under whose able leadership everything
is running smoothly.
Dr.Rajendra Desai,
Senior Professor equally shares
the responsibility. Two young
readers Dr.Umashankar
and Dr.Shubhalakshmi
are real work horses.

and soft tissue analysis for ethnic
Davangere profile.
3) Role of post operative laboratory
investigation prospective analysis
for general anaesthesia
/sedation
in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
4) To evaluate the efficacy of
synthetic bone graft material
when used with graft material
when used with autologous platelet
rich plasma in the regeneration
of bone in bony defects –
a clinical study.
5) Self tapping IMF screws, a
simplified method of maxillomandibular
fixation - a clinical study.
6) Verstality of maxillary Lefort
J Osteotomy in reducing dentofacial
deformities.
