The state of the art equipment in the department is always at the disposal of the students which places our college students on a podium better than their contemporaries. The various facilities include separate undergraduate and postgraduate clinics which are well-equipped and modern. In addition, there are fully automatic amalgamators and light curing units for both the clinics.

The postgraduate clinic has 12 Kavo fully automatic chairs. The PG students are provided with nickel-titanium rotary root canal cleaning and shaping system with latest torque-controlled motor and reduction handpieces.

A separate surgical section with 3 fibreoptic Kavo dental chairs, a Zeiss surgical microscope and high vacuum suction machine is also provided to be used by staff and PG students for specialised endodontic surgeries.

The department has its own library with latest books, dissertations, seminars, and library dissertations. There is also a separate computer room with Internet facility and a colour printer. In addition there is seminar hall with audio-visual aids.

The department also has a separate photography section which has the latest Canon automatic camera for photography of clinical cases.

The undergrdauate clinic has 17 fully automatic Kavo chairs. The department has a separate sterilization room with latest equipment like Kavoclaves, dry heat sterilizer, ultrasonic cleaner, and distilled water unit. Every dental chair in the PG clinic has a glass bead sterilizer.

The department also has a separate hall to conducr preclinical operative owrk to II BDS students.

There is separate dental X-ray room with a dummy dental chair, X-ray unit and a manual X-ray developer. There is large waiting room for patients with patient educating models and books. In addition to create a pleasant working environment there is Worldspace satellite receiver having 40 channels on track.

CURRENT RESEARCH INTERESTS
Current research interests include

• Clinically evaluating the efficacy of retrieval of broken instruments using surgical microscope
• Clinically evaluating the effect of flowable composite when compared to injectable glass ionomer in sealing cavity margins in Class II slot preparations
• Clinically evaluating the retention of three different pit & fissure sealants using invasive and non-invasive techniques
• Clinically comparing the time and efficiency of single-visit endodontics with that of multi-visit endodontics using both nickel-titanium and hand instrumentation
• Clinically evalutating the effect of immediate and delayed positioning of resin-modified glass ionomer cement and conventional glass ionomer cement restoration
• Clinically evalutating the retention of glass ionomer cement in etched and non-etched enamel
• Clinically evalutating the retention of two bottle adhesive systems after additional treatment with 5% NaCl

AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

The department has organised various postgraduate conventions and hands-on courses in regional and national level. To name a few:

• Postgraduate National Convention "Quest for perfection" (25-26 Nov 2001) including a hands-on course on rotary Ni-Ti root canal instrumentation by Dr Vasundhara Shivanna, the professor and head of the department.
• GC Asia lecture series on application of glass ionomers in restorative dentistry and Atraumatic Restorative Technique

Besides these, the department has a tie-up with Birla 3M to conduct hand-on courses on composite restoration and latest advancements and techniques.
